Have we got a video? Stewart slays the christian right with their own words
As a nonbeliever, I would love it if people abandoned their houses of worship and came together via science and reason. But, sadly, that’s not going to happen any time soon. Until then, I remain secular and quite fond of the Constitution. And so does Jon Stewart, quite rightly.

FTW: A little political/World Cup funny

Italy are the Israel of world football - we all know what they're upto but you're not allowed to say anything & theres no chance of justice
Guess Glenn Beck doesn’t support team #USA…
…and of course the World Cup and Obama are conspiring together to…to…oh, who the fuck knows. Does he even need to give reasons behind his conspiracy theories these days? He even says in the clip below that he doesn’t like soccer because the rest of the world does. I suppose he gets points for being honest about his xenophobia.
From EPLtalk and MediaMatters, Glenn Beck had this to say on his June 11th radio broadcast:
I don’t get the baseball thing, but the soccer thing, I hate it so much — probably because the rest of the world likes it so much, and they riot over it, and they continually try to jam it down our throat… It doesn’t matter how you sell it to us. It doesn’t matter how many celebrities you get. It doesn’t matter how many bars open early. It doesn’t matter how many beer commercials they run. We don’t want the World Cup. We don’t like the World Cup. We don’t like soccer. We want nothing to do with it. You can package it any way — you can spend all kinds of money. You can force it on our television sets. We will not enjoy the World Cup.
This sentiment is really very sad, especially since according to EPLtalk, “more people world wide care about the World Cup Final than the Super Bowl. The 2006 Final between Italy and France was viewed by some 260 million people while the Super Bowl was viewed by 98 million — and 92 million of those were US viewers.“
So, I’m sorry USA…your most patriotic citizen couldn’t care less about you. And p.s., he doesn’t like baseball much either. I wonder how he feels about apple pie?

Have we got a video? Back in Black – Glenn Beck’s Nazi Tourette’s (The Daily Show)
Sometimes Lewis Black is a bit over the edge with his style, but this was genius.

May 12, 2010: Back in Black – Glenn Beck’s Nazi Tourette’s
Come and see Christopher Hitchens Live
If you live in the Washington, D.C. area (or like me, live two and a half hours away) you should seriously consider coming out to listen to Christopher Hitchens talk about his soon to be released memoir Hitch-22: A Memoir on Sunday, June 13, 2010. This event is sponsored by the Center for Inquiry:
English-born and American by adoption, bohemian, all atheist and partly Jewish, Christopher Hitchens has held to a consistent thread of principle whether opposing war in Vietnam or supporting intervention in Iraq. As a foreign correspondent in some of the world’s nastiest places, a lecturer and teacher and an esteemed literary critic, Hitchens manifests a style that is ironic, witty, and tough-minded while his contradictions contain multitudes.
Christopher Hitchens was born in Portsmouth, England and worked in Britain as book reviewer for the Times and chief foreign correspondent for the Daily Express. After emigrating to the United States in 1981, he wrote the “Minority Report” column for The Nation. Since 1992, he has been columnist and contributing editor at Vanity Fair and, at different times, Washington editor and columnist for Harper’s magazine and American columnist and correspondent for the Spectator, the New Statesman, the Times Literary Supplement, Sunday Today, and the Sunday Correspondent. Hitchens writes regularly for the Atlantic Monthly and Slate, and is the author of God is Not Great, Letters to a Young Contrarian and Why Orwell Matters.
Christopher Hitchens will be interviewed by Austin Dacey, author of the The Secular Conscience and former United Nations representative for the Center for Inquiry.
The event runs from 6pm to 8pm at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, 600 I Street, NW, Washington, D.C. Get your tickets here and while you’re at it, consider becoming a Friend of the Center. After all, I’m one!
Glenn Beck & Liberty University: perfect together?
In searching for the next week’s blog fodder I came across a lot of people talking about Glenn Beck having been select to deliver Liberty University’s commencement speech this year. There were the usual liberal anti-Beck sentiments, most of which were funny, but surprisingly there were many alumni and other concerned Christians who were not at all happy about this. Some took issue with Beck being a Mormon, not a Baptist, but many others were distressed that the university has selected someone who, in their opinion, does not represent the true teachings of Christ. Interesting.

As a Christian who cares about representing Christ in my world, I'm sad that my alma matter is inviting Glenn Beck to commencement.

Beck speaking at Liberty; so glad I did not go to that school

Glenn Beck to deliver Liberty University's commencement speech. Figures. Political affiliation over Jesus and the poor. sad.

Glenn Beck, a mormon, speaking at liberty graduation. Not a fan of that.

I am disgusted that Liberty would have Glenn Beck at graduation. Dr. Falwell is rolling over in his grave. I am embarassed.

I like Glenn Beck and want to hear him, but having him as the graduation speaker of the largest CHRISTIAN university in the world is sad.

Officially not applying to Liberty because they asked Glenn Beck to be their grad speaker. I can only take so much.

Why would Liberty Uni. give 'the finger' to so many fellow Christians by having Glenn Beck as commencement speaker? #justdontgetit
