Christianity vs Halloween Debate
So Jesus “frequented the places where the people who need Him were,” like “handing out candy or at someone’s party.” Hmm, I’d like to think he’d be in a hospital or an orphanage, but I’m not a Christian so I don’t understand these things.
Science Vs the Bible…Facebook Style
Thanks to @bryansarrasin I’ve been made aware of another one of those silly Faceboook polls, this one called “What do you trust more, science or the bible?“. Let’s dive into some of the comments for a little fun.
Fortunately the fundamentalist argument was indeed in the minority here, and most of these outrageous statements were challenged by several different supporters of science. Science has won the day in the oh so significant microcosm of Facebook.
The Global Atheist
From talking to everyone at Twitter I’ve discovered everyone has a different way of obtaining news and blog updates on the inter-webs. Personally I’m addicted to RSS feeds and have used Google Reader since it first came out. I subscribe to hundreds of news sites and blogs, and no matter how busy or lazy I am they’re always there waiting to be read. It’s also the most convenient way to find the twitter screenshots I publish here. I subscribe to the RSS feeds of a couple dozen religious or right wing tweeters as well as follow certain words like “god”, “jesus”, “bible”, etc.
Other people bookmark sites they frequent and check in on them from time to time for updates and news. Another way to get instant information is via Twitter itself. Aside from following twitter accounts like BBC News or CNN, even just the random tweeter will publish links to spread the word of an interesting story. Another good way to get news or updates is to visit sites like Digg or Reddit.
But sometimes it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. By following so many nonbeliever blogs I notice the same story gets shuffled around from blogger to blogger and eventually makes its way to Pharyngula or the Friendly Atheist or other such blogs that receive heavy traffic. So essentially if you only follow a handful of popular blogs you’ll eventually get all the news you need.
This brings me to The Global Atheist. If you’re going to follow any site for secular news, make it this one. The Global Atheist is an aggregate site for atheist blogs and web pages created by @AtheistDoug.
I created Global Atheist with the intention of spreading the word of Atheism and Skepticism the only way I knew how, the internet. I’m not looking to be the next big thing, I’m not looking to garner a million web hits, nor am I looking to make any money. I just want to share something I’m passionate about with others. I have read most of the blogs and websites listed in the blogroll of this website for some time while others I am new too. It is my hope that I can introduce people to some authors they have yet to come across while at the same time providing a service if at all possible.
This site brings together a great collection of up to date news and commentary from the atheist blogosphere, including Pharyngula and the Friendly Atheist. I suggest bookmarking, subscribing or doing whatever you do to the Global Atheist to make sure you’re kept in the loop. You can also follow @GlobalAtheist on Twitter.
